Artist's Statement

As a young girl, my paints and pencils never ceased to captivate me. My art materials were simply a crucial aspect of my childhood. Where ever I went, a trail of both paintings and drawings would follow. Now that I am an adult, nothing much has changed. My sketchbook is always handy and my art materials are always at arms length.

Creating artworks has been a life long passion for me.  I am happy to paint whatever inspires me at the time;  a sunny, colourful beachside scene, a stormy, windswept landscape, a twig of cherry blossom catching the morning light, or the challenging subtle skin tones and lines of the human figure.

I love painting in many mediums, primarily watercolour, acrylic or oils.  Choosing which medium is easy.  I usually let my mood and the subject dictate it on the day. Sometimes it may be the soft, transparent washes of watercolour that I would like to see, or I may feel like some spontaneous, energetic brushwork with acrylics.  Once I have achieved what I set out to do with acrylic or watercolour, I may then challenge myself further to capture that magic with oils or mixed media.

I feel very fortunate to be on one of the most exciting journeys an artist can take. A journey where  learning is such a joy and capturing a moment in time in a painting is so rewarding.  A journey where along the way I can pass on my knowledge and skills and give joy to others whether they are travelling on the same artistic road  or keen to explore the world and magic that art can bring.
